This is an RP I made on the DC forums, but the mods avoid us and ignore us. So I'm going to rebelliously post it here and see how it turns out.
Transformation: The Distortion War
It happened without warning. Humans from various backgrounds, of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and races, suddenly disappeared from the Earth. No one knew where they went. They left not a trace of their existence, almost as though they'd never even lived there, and life on Earth continued without them. They were insignificant, outcasts, loners, persons of small consequence, people whose absence wouldn't cause a ripple in the flow and balance on Earth.
The first one was Raina, a teenage girl who went to bed one night and found herself transformed into a black dragon. Others soon followed, taking on various forms, and the discovery of crystals was made.
Crystals are reincarnations of the long-dead dragons from before the first transformation wave. The dragons were destroyed, but their souls were not. Instead, they were mysteriously placed in these shiny gems, each the color of their former selves.
Soon after the discovery of such beings, a mysterious force destroyed most of the crystals, excluding Topaz, who was permanently fused with Sallah. Other crystals may remain scattered throughout the land, unbeknownst to all others.
All wondered why they were no longer human; the crystal dragons and the transformed dragons alike. Some found ways to revert to their previous form, while others found a way back to Earth. Through Raina, who became something of a prophetess after her death, the newly changed humans learned of a higher being.
Throughout the existence of all things there have been great beings who strive for balance and harmony. Let us not forget the time of Raina, a black dragon who hurled herself into a volcano to quell its violent nature. However, she did not act alone. No, there was a higher being who persuaded her to do so. He was the white dragon, mysterious and nameless. His name was, appropriately, Harmony.
With others of his mindset, Harmony sought out the things that would please the universe, and set things into motion for perfection and peace. It was then discovered that certain planes of light could be opened into uninhabited areas of the universe. One of these portals opened into the Crystal Caverns… And of course, at the time, there were no crystals.
Harmony delighted in his discovery and claimed it as a place where others of his kind could live together and maintain the balance. However, there is a cruel irony in the fact that harmony had can not be kept by peaceful ways.
It wasn't long before it was realized that one couldn't just create dragons from nothing--they had to already exist in another form. You see, all life is recycled from one world to the next, and, in some rare cases, the life retains memories of its previous form. Such is the case with the transformed humans.
At the same moment, another higher being created the place we call Earth, which prospered greatly. In desperation, Harmony asked the overlord of Earth to give up some of his creations, the humans, so that Harmony would be able to populate his own world. The Earth lord agreed that Harmony could take a select few from his world, but only if they were ready to move on to another form.
Such was the case with the first transformed dragons, including Myrade, Obsidian, Emerald, Topaz, and Phanpy. Later on, more emerged from their Earthly homes, namely Raina, Feyho, Randy, Heather, Myst, Sallah, and Tommy, as well as countless others.
Harmony gazes with a watchful eye, making corrections where necessary. Behind him is the image of a scale, slowly tipping into equilibrium. Perhaps he was right to remove these humans from Earth. They tip the scales in such a way that pleases.
However, what happened next changed everything.
It has been fifteen years since the first humans were turned into dragons. The portal–which was described as a square made of light, between the two worlds: dragon and human–was opened some time ago and was left to its own devices. Over the time, it has swelled in size, beginning to devour both worlds. The term for this has begun to be known as distortion.
Wars, both mental and physical, have raged between the dragons as they discovered their true selves in the dragon world. Though all the crystals were destroyed, there is one who managed to survive. Myrade.
With Myrade came a great storm of battles. She fought against the transformed dragons for her own satisfaction, mostly, but also to get Mysteria, her former host, back for what she thought the silver had done to her; she had taken a piece of Myrade’s crystal and hid it away from her. Over the past few years, the shape-shifting crystal has created an army to be reckoned with. She recruited humans, those who desired to kill the dragons who had crossed between the worlds. Although a few dragons joined her, none were compared to vast numbers of the humans. With her army, she sought to destroy all of the transformed dragons.
The dragons from the first transforming wave were scattered throughout the dragonic land, but there are some in tight bands formed through strong friendships. As Myrade’s army slowly grew, they wondered what would happen to them, and the many bands began to join with one another for protection. Humans began to join them as well, but fewer in numbers than the ones who joined Myrade.
Tensions are rising. The taste for blood is stronger than ever on Myrade’s side. The worlds are distorting. What will you do and choose?
